Architectural Digest Design Show Inspiration

Last week our design team visited the Architectural Digest design show in New York. The annual event brings together designers from across the country to share projects, inspiration, and check out the latest and greatest innovations. We sat down with our lead residential interior designer, Susan Gracki, to find out what really caught her eye at the show!

The first thing on her mind was the matte white & gold appliances. “Matte appliances have been popular for a while now, but white is the newest option. They’ll be great for anyone who really wants to create the ULTIMATE white kitchen or someone who doesn’t like stainless.” This could eliminate the need for panels for future renovations. As for the golden knobs, “LOVE the different metallic finishes, gold really steps up the luxury factor!”

Next up were the matte black fixtures & hardware (we’re sensing a trend here)! Matte black fixtures make perfect statement pieces. Their diversity knows no bounds “You can use them anywhere, and with any style, farmhouse, industrial, modern, you name it. It doesn’t clash with colors and patterns like some metallics can, which makes it a great neutral option.”

We’re not just talking about faucets and shower heads either, even matte black lighting and accessories provide a non-clashing, moody addition to any space.

The final favorite of the trip was the custom color appliances! We’re not talking about your average refrigerator anymore! “We saw a lot of rich deep tones, green, blue, and they’re all customizable, even Dolce & Gabanna has a custom line of appliances.” These custom designs would make an eye-popping addition to any kitchen!

We’re excited to see what new trends will being hitting the floor next year, and can’t wait to see a few of these beautiful pieces used in upcoming projects!

Our history

This business, like many small businesses, evolved from a friendship between two ambitious young professionals. Brook Gardner, an engineer from Virginia, and Mark Fox, an architect from Kentucky, discovered a common interest in designing and renovating buildings when they became neighbors in Center City, Philadelphia. They founded their own design and consulting firm in 1987, which has grown into Gardner/Fox.
