Maintaining Your Project
|
Now that you have the space of your dreams, here are some ideas to help you maintain your project so you can enjoy it for years to come:
- Create an annual maintenance calendar for your home. Regular maintenance can help avoid costly repairs.
- Keep records of when repairs were done and who did them.
- Keep a list of plumbers, electricians and roofers that you could call in case of an emergency.
- Be on the lookout for water. Regularly check for pipe and roof leaks and make sure you keep gutters and rain water leaders clear.
- Identify and tag the main water supply and gas supply valves and make sure everyone in the household knows where they are , what they do and how to turn them off in case of an emergency.
- Save all warranties.
- Make sure you receive all maintenance information and operating manuals for any appliances installed, including heating and air conditioning units.
- Make sure you know how to clean flooring, tile, countertops, faucets, tubs, etc. With so many different types of materials in homes, you have to be extremely careful that the cleaning product you use doesn't damage the surface.
- Put chair guards on the bottom of chairs to prevent scratches on flooring, particularly hardwood floors.
- Keep outdoor grills away from the house so the heat doesn't damage siding or cause a fire.
