Penn Medicine at Limerick Building Expansion
Limerick, PA - Gardner/Fox constructed a 40,000 square-foot, two-story addition for Penn Medicine at Limerick, part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Mediplex Medical Building Corporation designed the addition.
An 18,000 square-foot surgical facility located on the second floor of the addition includes three surgical rooms; medical gases including oxygen, nitrogen, vacuum and nitrous oxide; a pre-operative unit and a recovery area; a back-up generator; and two hydraulic elevators. The first floor of the addition houses a 9,000 square-foot dialysis unit.
The exterior of the addition maintains the integrity of the original building with a brick exterior, a standing-seam metal roof, a porte cochE8re over a patient drop-off area, and revolving door entries. The structural aspects of the building include concrete spread footings, a structural steel frame, and reinforced concrete floor slabs.
Extensive site work included cut and fill operations; new water, electric and sewer systems; an expanded 185-car parking lot with a patient drop-off area; and a storm water detention basin.
This large fast-track project was completed in a very short time frame. The shell of the building was completed in five months, and the addition92s interior was finished in just three months.
